Mechanical Engineering Department Mission Statement
The mission of the Mechanical Engineering Department, at undergraduate and graduate levels, is to educate Mechanical Engineers who are contemporary, respectful of ethical values, innovative, entrepreneurial, who embrace the awareness of lifelong learning, are prone to collaboration, possess leadership qualities, and who can contribute to science, technology, and social development by conducting original and qualified research.
**Mechanical Engineering Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)***
Graduates of the Ondokuz Mayıs University Faculty of Engineering Mechanical Engineering Program, equipped with the strong fundamental engineering knowledge provided by their undergraduate education, and the awareness of continuous learning, social responsibility, and adherence to values, will be able to:
Work in the private sector and public institutions, predominantly in the regional industry but also nationwide, in the fields of mechanics, manufacturing, and energy, and quickly assume managerial positions.
Secure positions in defense industry organizations that seek high-caliber employees, and conduct research and development activities within their own discipline and/or interdisciplinary fields.
Be accepted into and successfully complete master's and/or doctoral programs at prestigious universities.
Establish their own businesses, carry out production, and develop products.
Program Outcomes (POs)
The ability to use mathematical, scientific, and fundamental engineering knowledge, along with analysis, synthesis, and research skills, to solve complex mechanical engineering problems.
The ability to design and conduct experiments, interpret the results using appropriate analysis and modeling techniques, and select and utilize modern tools and equipment in the process of identifying, defining, and formulating complex engineering problems.
The ability to select, develop, and design a machine, component, system, or process to ensure the expected performance, manufacturing characteristics, economy, and efficiency, that is, under realistic constraints and conditions.
The ability to work individually when necessary, and to work in interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary teams and provide leadership to the team when necessary.
The ability to identify, formulate, solve, and present complex Mechanical Engineering problems, and in line with this, the ability to use ready-made computer software as well as write direct code. The ability to determine appropriate methods for problem-solving and use contemporary methods to access information.
Possession of a professional ethical responsibility; knowledge of standards used in engineering applications and the ability to access information on standards related to the solution of complex problems encountered, using information access technologies.
The ability to communicate verbally and in writing in two languages, one of which is the native language. The ability to write effective reports, prepare production and design reports, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear and understandable instructions in the native language. The potential to achieve report writing proficiency in the second language by working on it when needed.
Possession of knowledge about the global and national impacts of mechanical engineering (on health, environment, and safety issues), knowledge of contemporary issues reflected in the field of engineering; awareness of the legal consequences of engineering solutions.
The quality of having perceived the importance of lifelong (continuous) learning; consequently, the ability to access information, follow developments in science and technology, and possess the capability for independent learning and continuous self-renewal.
The ability to use modern engineering methods, such as computer software in engineering design and analysis, and contemporary methods to access information.
More detailed knowledge and practical experience in any of the mechanical engineering application areas chosen by the student, along with knowledge of business life applications such as project management, risk management, and change management.
The quality of having perceived the importance of innovation (inventiveness) in technology development, awareness of entrepreneurship and innovativeness, and knowledge of sustainable development.
The ability to adapt to changing national and global conditions.
