Mechanical Engineering Department; was established in 1993 within the Faculty of Engineering and started to accept students at both undergraduate and graduate levels since the academic year of 2008-2009. the department has started to take students at PhD level since 2011-2012 academic year.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering meets the technical staff needs of our country and contributes to the science production of our country through research activities. Providing R&D support for the production of patent, which is the registration of the practical applicability of this information as well as the production of information, is also the aim of the department.
Mechanical engineering; It is a branch of engineering which carries out the researches and studies on the construction, manufacturing, manufacturing planning, assembling, maintenance-repair and operation of mechanical systems and energy conversion systems of all kinds of mechanisms. Although it is said that the activities in the field of mechanical engineering started with Archimedes (287-212 BC), it is accepted that the development of Mechanical Engineering as a separate profession was based on the start of the production of machines and the motors driving them in the early 19th century.
Mechanical Engineer; know basic engineering subjects such as mechanical kinematics, thermodynamics and energy as well as basic principles of mathematics and physics. It is the person who can use this information effectively in the design, manufacture and analysis of mechanical systems and energy conversion systems.Mechanical engineering machines, the oldest and the largest engineering field, are interested in energy and manufacturing methods. Mechanical engineers design and manufacture machines and equipment for all branches of the industry as well as machine tools. For example; turbines, hydraulic presses, food processors, air conditioning and cooling systems, artificial hearts and limbs, airplanes, diesel locomotives, automobiles, trucks, motors for mass transportation vehicles, etc. Mechanical engineer makes the design of mechanical systems, gas and steam turbines, piston compressors, nuclear reactors, internal combustion engines, cooling-heating-ventilation systems according to the structure of the institution. In doing so, consider factors of usefulness and cheapness.
Energy engineers are interested in the design, production and operation of hydraulic turbines and steam boilers, engines, turbines and pumps to drive electric generators. They design and operate power plants and are interested in the economic combustion of fuels, the transformation of heat energy into mechanical power and the use of this power to make useful work. Mechanical engineers in the field of heating, ventilation and air conditioning; they provide controlled temperature and humidity conditions in homes, workplaces, commercial buildings and industrial facilities. They develop the necessary equipment and systems for cold storage and ice production facilities.
Mechanical engineers also work in machine design, the automotive industry and the aerospace industry.
